The West Deptford High School Field Hockey team defeated Schalick, 2-0 in the South Jersey Group 1 Final Tuesday afternoon at Gateway Regional High School. The game was played at Gateway because the NJSIAA mandates that the sectional finals must be played on artificial turf.
For the second consecutive season, top-seeded West Deptford is headed back to the NJSIAA Group 1 state championship after a 2-0 victory over sixth-seeded Schalick in the South Jersey Group 1 Final. Sophomore Zoey Gibbons scored first for the Lady Eagles with 29.4 seconds left in the first quarter. Junior Kaylee Wonsetler scored the last goal of the game with 2:03 left in the first half. (See links below) Despite the loss, Schalick sophomore goalie Lydia Gilligan played a great game, stopping 11 of West Deptford's 13 shots on goal.

"We have a lot of talent from last year's team and there was some doubt coming into this season. This team worked very hard and it's just very exciting for them to earn it on their own merit. We're very hungry and offensive minded," West Deptford head coach Courtney Stetson said.
Any doubt that was left is now gone. West Deptford is only losing four seniors this season compared to the seven lost in 2022, and they have high hopes to three-peat in 2024. For now though, West Deptford (14-3-3) will meet Shore Regional (20-2) in a rematch of last year's NJSIAA State final where the lady Eagles won 3-2 in double overtime. The game will be held this Saturday at Bordentown at noon.
