Rutgers Camden Baseball Tops Ursinus 10-1

The spirits were high in Camden, New Jersey, and the Scarlet Raptors were hungry for a win. On Monday night, the Scarlet Raptors (12-5) defeated the Bears (6-11) with a final score of 10-1. The Scarlet Raptors wanted this win badly after losing to the Bears just the day before by a score of 2-3.

Rutgers Camden scored in all eight innings they went to the plate in. During the game, Jack Murphy, #12, reached his 100th career hit. Overall, Rutgers Camden played a great ball game.

Murphy showed off his hitting skills today. In five at-bats, he scored 2 runs, had 3 hits, and had 3 RBIs. In the sixth inning, Murphy reached the big 100 and was able to reach 101 in the eighth. Murphy was not the only one who played great. Diego Salazar #21 had 2 runs, 3 hits, and 2 RBIs in four at-bats. Jacob Watson #2 also had 2 runs, 2 bases stolen, and an RBI.

As milestones were reached, there was another player who continued his climb towards breaking records. Danny Vazquez #7 continued to work to top the program’s defensive records. He had 3 assists, which brought his career total to 322, tying him for 3rd place. He is a mere 6 assists away from tying first place at 328. He also had two double plays, bringing his career record to 77. This has him tied for 2nd place on the all-time program list. The record is currently 82, leaving Vazquez just five short.

Within all the excitement offensively and defensively, Rutgers Camden also showed stellar pitching. Chase Cooper #26 pitched for 7 innings, allowing 5 hits, 2 walks, and just 1 run. He was a fierce competitor to the Bears, and they were unable to hold their ground against Cooper. Dustin Bellis #15 swapped out for Cooper to end the game and was able to strike out the Bears.
