Rutgers-Camden Baseball loses NJAC Playoff game to Ramapo

Playoffs have officially started for the NJAC, and Rutgers-Camden is off to a rocky start. They faced Ramapo College on Tuesday and lost 7-6. The loss dropped them into the losers’ bracket, while Ramapo remained in the winners’ bracket. This now brings the Scarlet Raptors to a record of 26-14, while the Roadrunners have a record of 25-14. Rutgers-Camden will try to make a comeback for themselves on Friday against TCNJ.

Ramapo played a nice and steady game. They scored two runs in the first inning. Jack Tallent hit a single, followed by hits from Zack Bailey and John Higgins. Tallent moved his way around the bases and was able to score a run on a passed ball. Bailey scored shortly after, with an RBI from Matt Lalomia. In the second inning, they were able to score again with a homer from Jesse Swartout. Lalomia scored during the third inning, while Rutgers-Camden remained without a run.

Rutgers Camden could not score on Ramapo’s pitcher until the sixth inning. The Scarlet Raptors had a four-run inning, trying their best to make a comeback. After Ryan Nutley was walked, the game finally started moving for the Scarlet Raptors. Jack Murphy hit a single, moving Nutley to second. Billy Richards hit a double, sending Murphy and Nutley home. After a single from Evan Carbone, Richards made it home as well. Carbone then scored, bringing the game to a tie at four. This was an explosive inning for Rutgers-Camden, and it looked like things may have been turning around.

However, in the seventh inning, Tallent and Higgins scored again for the Roadrunners, taking the lead for good. In the eighth inning, the Scarlet Raptors got runs on the board as Carbone and Steven Shaffer each scored. Unfortunately, this was not enough for them to tie the game or take the lead. With no points scored by Rutgers Camden in the 9th inning, they fell short to Ramapo.

The Scarlet Raptors will retake the field at home on Friday for their next playoff game.
