Rutgers-Camden baseball defeats Wilson in makeup game

On Monday night, the Scarlet Raptors (23-12) defeated the Phoenix (16-13) 3-2 in a close game. This game had been rescheduled from April 2nd, and the Raptors were well prepared. Rutgers-Camden was coming off a loss on Saturday and was hungry for a win.

Jacob Watson reached a career milestone as he picked up his 100th career hit, which brought Rutgers-Camden the victory. Trailing 2-1 in the seventh inning, Watson got on base and scored the tying run, while Steven Shaffer scored the go-ahead run on a two-run single from Diego Salazar. This was only Watson's 74th career game, and he has really shined on this team. He is the third Scarlet Raptor to get his 100th hit this season.

The game moved slowly, as there were no runs on the board till the third inning. Wilson's Haden Hoff hit a single and then stole second. Harry Middlebrooks hit a single, which put Hoff at third. Jordan Mckenzie hit out to right field, allowing Hoff to score.

In the fourth inning, Salazar hit a single, followed by a single from Jose Correa. Salazar went first to third after Correa's hit. Billy Richard hit out to right field as Salazar scored the game's first run for Camden.

Wilson scored again in the sixth inning, but Rutgers-Camden scored twice in the seventh inning, which gave them the lead for good. Watson singled to first for his milestone hit, followed by Danny Vazquez grounding out to second base. This allowed Watson to move to second, followed by a move to third after Steven Shaffer got on the plate from a throwing error. Salazar hit a single to left field, allowing Shaffer and Watson to make it home.

Rutgers-Camden also had an excellent game for their pitchers. Anthony Angelo started the game and pitched seven innings. He struck out one and allowed no walks while allowing seven hits and two earned runs. Jacob Brennan and Gavin Cunard pitched scoreless innings to lock the game down for the Scarlet Knights.

The Scarlet Raptors played a strong game and secured a great win. They will return to the field on Thursday against NJAC opponent Montclair State University.
