The West Deptford High School field hockey team defended its state title with a 4-1 victory over Shore Regional in the NJSIAA Group 1 state championship Saturday morning at Bordentown Regional High School.
Gabrielle Gorgan paced the offense for West Deptford, scoring two of the team’s four goals. Kaylee Wonsetler and Kassidy Yarusso also netted one each for the Eagles.
“We did what we do best. They played together, they took their shots, and they did a great job. I’m accelerated. I did not expect the score to look like this. They far exceeded my expectations. They were great today.” - West Deptford head coach Courtney Stetson said.
West Deptford concluded its season with a 15-3-3 record, while Shore fell to 20-3 with its only other two losses coming to Group 2 finalist Point Pleasant Boro.
