The Cherokee High School boys basketball team defeated Paulsboro, 67-43, in the 2nd annual MLK Showcase at Sterling High School Monday afternoon. It was something you rarely see, a small Group 1 school challenging a very big Group 4 school in Cherokee. The Chiefs proved to overwhelm the Red Raiders, and the game was never in doubt. Cherokee jumped to a 39-18 halftime lead and never looked back.
Cherokee junior Judd Holt paced the Chiefs offense with 19 total points, including five threes.
"He's a leader. He's a great kid on and off the court. He works hard. Everything we ask him to do, he does. He's a kid you would want in your program," Cherokee head coach Eric Cassidy said about Holt.
"It was a great team win. Everyone contributed and we all shared the ball. We just need to build off of this and keep getting better every day," Holt said after the victory.
Cherokee improves record to 9-4.

Cassidy credited the fight from the tough group 1 squad, saying that:
"We shot the ball well. Daryus (Quarles) does a great job over at Paulsboro. We knew coming in that it would be a tough game. We have to continue to grind. Every night is a war. We just have to be prepared and ready to go," Cassidy added.
Cherokee (9-4) travels to Cherry Hill East, while Paulsboro (5-7) hosts Lindenwold both on Tuesday.
