After early season adversity, the Collingswood Field Hockey team is back to true form, defeating Woodstown 2-1 in the South Jersey Group 1 Quarterfinal.
The Collingswood Field Hockey team has had its fair share of adversity this season. After finishing with a 18-4 record along with a sectional final appearance in 2022, the Panthers graduated 11 total seniors (including seven starters) this past spring.
After a tough 1-0 loss to Haddon Heights on October 6, Collingswood found themselves in unusual territory with a 4-4-1 record through their first nine games this fall, matching the program’s total losses they had all of last season.
Fast forward 26 days.
"A goal we talk about as a team is improving 1% every day of the season. The girls have really worked hard and been focused in practice all season long. That effort is paying off and they have steadily improved all the season especially throughout the month of October. Our performance in the 1st and 2nd round of playoffs shows their hard work and their commitment to improving each day." - Collingswood head coach Valerie Dayton said.
"It was a good, solid win for us. Woodstown is always a tough opponent. We needed to match their energy and aggressiveness to the ball. We found our groove in the 2nd quarter and were able to start pressuring their defense. Our defense played tough today and we were able to get some big stops against a hungry offense." - CHS HC Dayton.
Collingswood will play this Friday, Nov. 3, at West Deptford (time 2:00pm) in a rematch of last year's South Jersey Group 1 Final.
