Wilson, DeVito Named AFC/NFC Offensive Players of the Week

Not Aaron Rodgers and Daniel Jones - but Zach Wilson and Tommy DeVito. If your mind is blown, don't worry, you're not alone. Two New York quarterbacks were named NFL Offensive Players of the Week after their Week 14 performances and they are names you would not have expected when this season began.

Zach Wilson Named AFC Offensive Player of the Week

New York Jets quarterback Zach Wilson was named AFC Offensive Player of the Week after completing 27-of-36 passes for 301 yards and two touchdowns. He did not thrown an interception and finished the Jets 30-6 win over the Houston Texans with a QB rating of 117.9.

It's been a roller coaster of a season for Wilson, one in which he began as a backup to future Hall of Famer, Aaron Rodgers. Rodgers however was injured just a handful of snaps into the first game of the season and Wilson was forced into action. Wilson struggled, not able to provide the Jets offense with much of a spark and the team began to fall well below expectations. He was eventually benched, again.

Prior to Week 14, the Jets announced Wilson would return to the field as the starting quarterback, but reports stated the youngster did not want to play. After changing his mind, Wilson returned to the field with virtually nothing to lose, and his performance reflected that. He appeared to play much looser, and just let his talent take over.

Now, the only question is, will this be a spring board for Wilson's confidence?

DeVito Named NFC Offensive Player of the Week

Nobody expected Tommy DeVito to step foot on a field for the New York Giants this season, in fact, most NFL fans probably had never heard the quarterbacks name before. DeVito has quickly developed into a New York/New Jersey hero, using his Italian heritage to pull at the heart strings of Giants fans across the region. Much has been made of DeVito's life growing up in New Jersey with an Italian family and the home cooked meals, specifically chicken cutlets. What hasn't been talked about much prior to Week 14 was DeVito's quick learning and improvement on the field.

DeVito was forced into action after Daniel Jones and Tyrod Taylor both went down with injuries. Many expected Taylor to return to the field once healthy, but DeVito has forced the Giants to stick with him, and it's paid off.

In a prime time matchup with the Green Bay Packers on Monday Night, DeVito used his arm and legs to the delight of the crowd at MetLife Stadium. DeVito finished 17-of-21 for 175 yards and a touchdown, finishing with a QB rating of 113.9. He also ran 10 times for 71 yards. DeVito was named the NFC Offensive Player of the Week for Week 14 and has the Giants still dreaming of a playoff push.

It may not be the season many expected, but it would be hard to deny it's been entertaining to watch the way Wilson and DeVito took the field this week and just had fun playing football.
