Freshman Hannah Hidalgo led the N0. 17 Notre Dame Fighting Irish to an upset victory over No. 5 Virginia Tech, 71-58, on Thursday night. Hidalgo, a New Jersey native, led the Irish with 23 points and 12 rebounds.
A free throw with 21 seconds remaining in the 3rd quarter moved Hidalgo past Florida State's Ta'Niya Latson to become the highest-scoring freshman in ACC history. Latson had set the record of 659 points during her first year at Florida State last season.

Hidalgo leads the ACC in scoring at 23.7 points a game in her first year of collegiate ball. She has ignited a Notre Dame offense that is the driving force of a team looking to make deep postseason runs in both the ACC Tournament and NCCA Tournament.
Prior to the season, Hidalgo was listed by ESPN as one of the top impact freshman to watch in women's college basketball. She has not shy'd away from the expectations, instead has seemingly taken them head on.
Hidalgo, who starred at Paul VI High School in Haddonfield, NJ, was the 2023 Gatorade New Jersey Player of the Year and No. 5 ranked recruit in the 2023 class according to ESPN HoopGurlz Rankings.
Now at Notre Dame, Hidalgo has continued to play with leadership and swagger, something women's basketball fans will surely gravitate toward as her career continues. For now, this Jersey girl looks to continue a record setting freshman campaign.
Put Notre Dame on national television for the next 3 years straight. Hannah Hidalgo needs to start getting superstar treatment NOW.
