Red Bulls Say Farewell to Luquinhas

The New York Red Bulls have officially completed a transfer of midfielder Luquinhas to Fortaleza Esporte Clube of the Brazilian League. The 27-year-old Brazilian native now heads home after his two-year stint with the Red Bulls.

Luquinhas made 56 MLS appearances including 44 starts where he recorded eight goals and seven assists. His first career MLS goal came against Orlando City SC in April of 2022 where New York was the victors with a 3-0 win. During this past 2023 season, the midfielder had three goals and four assists in 26 MLS appearances. Two of those goals came from New York’s 3-0 win over Toronto FC in their final regular season home game of the season.

“We want to thank Luquinhas for his dedication and contributions to our club for the last two years,” Head of Sport Jochen Schneider said. “Luquinhas was a great representative of our club, and we wish him and his family all the best in this next step.”

During the Red Bulls’ recent playoff run, Luquinhas was a key factor, registering two assists in their 5-2 Wild Card win over Charlotte FC. He became the first player since Thierry Henry in 2014 to have a multi-assist night in a playoff game.

At the end of the day, Luquinhas was a skillful player for New York who was applauded for his talent of drawing fouls in key moments during matches. The Red Bulls wish him well and say “Obrigado” as he makes his way to Brazil.
