The Mountain Lakes High School Football team defeated Glassboro, 24-6, in the NJSIAA Group 1 State Championship at SHI Stadium on Sunday morning.
A severe lack of offensive movement along with sub-par special teams was costly for a very young Glassboro team.
The plays:
ML Senior Aidan Malnati scored from one-yard out with 6:56 left in the first quarter.
After a 7-0 defensive first half, ML Senior Matt Shertzer extended the lead 10-0 with 5:46 left in the third quarter.
Senior Marco Dzamba’s big day was highlighted with his fumble recovery in the endzone with 10:21 left in the fourth quarter.
Senior J. Hernando (Dzamba 2PT) scored from 12 yards out to put Mountain Lakes up 24-0 with 3:18 left in the fourth quarter.
Glassboro Senior Damere Lassiter scored on a 37-yard lateral pass from Freshman Kristopher Foster on the game’s final play to avoid the shutout.
Mountain Lakes finished the season with a 11-2 record, while Glassboro dropped to 9-4 on the campaign.
