Saturday afternoon will see the Princeton Tigers play their last road game of regular season play, while also looking to pick up three very important conference points. Coming off of a heartbreaking 1-0 loss to Bucknell, the Tigers look to bounce back against Dartmouth. As of Friday morning, the Tigers are tied with the Crimson for second place in the Ivy League standings and are still looking to clinch a spot in the conference tournament.
Strong Communication
In Princeton’s last two contests, they have had the opportunity to come away with the win, but mistakes took the game away from them. In their tie against Harvard, a miscommunication on the backline allowed the Crimson to find a the net. A similar story was seen against Bucknell, but this time it was the offense who weren’t in sync which allowed the Bisons to quickly charge up field and steal the game late.
Communication on the pitch is always such a crucial component of the game. The issues Princeton has had recently with this component can be a little alarming, especially with playoffs right around the corner. Saturday is Princeton’s opportunity to erase all doubt about their communication woes. If the Tigers can execute this component, a win is surely on the horizon for them.
Setting the Pace
Coming into a match with intensity hasn’t been an issue for the Tigers this season, but sometimes the strong intensity causes game changing mistakes. The Tigers need to take their intensity and use that to set the game at a good pace for them. So many moments this season it has felt as if the goals scored against Princeton have come from the game picking up momentum and moving at an accelerated speed. Being able to find the perfect balance between intensity and pace will be a key factor in Saturday’s game.
Kickoff is set for 3 p.m. EST at Burnham Field, where this Princeton-Dartmouth matchup should translate to some exciting Saturday afternoon soccer.
