New York Giants Continue To Crumble with Loss to Dolphins

The season just keeps going from bad to worse for the New York Football Giants. Week in and week out they not only get defeated by the other team, but constantly beat themselves with poor decisions, penalties and silly mistakes.

On Sunday afternoon, the Giants were handed their third straight loss and fourth of the year at Hard Rock Stadium. The Miami Dolphins crumbled the Giants offensive attempts and literally ran all over the Giants defense.

As if the 31-16 loss wasn't bad enough, the Giants walked away with some injuries to some crucial players. Starting quarterback Daniel Jones was one of the players that left the game with an apparent neck injury in the fourth quarter. Jones was ruled out for the remainder of the game and the severity of the injury is unknown.

In the game, Jones went 14/20 with 143 total yards. Jones' replacement Tyrod Taylor held his ground, going 9/12 with 100 total yards.

The offensive line looked atrocious, allowing seven sacks by Miami. Josh Ezeudu stood out negatively as he was getting walked over all day and cost the Giants precious yards with costly penalties. Ezeudu was eventually replaced by Matt Peart after his performance literally caused Jones to get injured.

Evan Neal also had another discouraging performance, allowing the Dolphins to literally run right into Jones untouched. The struggles continue for Neal, as game in and game out he doesn't not look like a professional offensive linemen.

Throughout the matchup, the Giants used a good combination between the passing and run game. Darren Waller led the receiving group with 86 yards, while Darius Slayton (35 yards) and Paris Campbell (23 yards) put up decent stats.

On the ground, Eric Gray led the rushing group with 25 yards, while Jones (24 yards) and Matt Breida (21 yards) also had solid contributions. For more individual stats on the ground and in the air from the Giants click here.

Despite the offense putting up 290 yards of total offense, they weren't the ones getting the points on the board. Graham Gano contributed three field goals (four attempts) with a long of 51 yards. The remaining seven points came from a pick-six by Jason Pinnock and an extra point by Gano.

Speaking of the Giants defense, Big Blue had their best defensive outing of the whole year, despite giving up 31 points and 524 yards of total offense. New York's defense recorded one sack, two interceptions and one forced fumble.

Plays like the fumbles and sacks are nice and all, but don't matter in the end if you can't stop simple run plays and get your coverage blown up.

The struggle of tackling is still apparent for New York, but has gotten much better over the last few games. However, the Giants offense needs to take some weight off the of their own defense, as it is very hard for a defense to put the best product out there when your offense is constantly going three and out.

Giants coach Brian Daboll has to find a way to get the offense in the back of the end zone early (as well as in general) and keep moving the chains. If not, it is going to continue to be a nightmare of a season for the Giants and their fans.

The Giants have another rough outing approaching as they face the Buffalo Bills at Buffalo next Sunday. Big Blue will look to avoid getting steam rolled or better yet their second win of the year.
