Rutgers field hockey victorious in season opening shutout vs. UC Davis

It was a great night to be a Scarlet Knight as the Rutgers field hockey team opened their season with a 2-0 shoutout victory against UC Davis Friday night.

The Scarlet Knights were ready to get the season started and be back on the field after a lot of anticipation from the media. The positive comments and optimism about the program did not go to waste as Rutgers looked good in their first game of the season.

Against the team’s first opponent on the West Coast trip, the Scarlet Knights got on the board late in the second quarter. With two minutes remaining in the first half, the Scarlet Knights converted on a penalty corner for the first score of the year. Iris Langejans sent a pass to teammate Bridy Molyneaux who buried it in the net.

The Scarlet Knights got on the board once more with 10 minutes left in the fourth quarter. Vicky Jure made a nice pass in front of the net to teammate Guillermina Causarano who used terrific stickwork to maneuver around defenders and put the ball in the back of the net.

Rutgers was able to prevent UC Davis from finding the back of the net, leading them to victory. The Scarlet Knights earned themselves a great 1-0 start to the season.
