Seton Hall men’s basketball news and notes heading into Fall semester

The Seton Hall Pirates have completed summer workouts and will begin the fall semester on Monday, August 28th. Before the semester begins, the Pirates have taken another step towards completing their roster for the upcoming season. That addition comes internationally from Turkey. Andra Ozdogan a 6-foot-8 center, who is 18 years old, has officially committed to Seton Hall and will play for the Pirates this season.

Ozdogan was a member of club Turk Telekom, a pro club that is apart of the Turkish Basketball Super League. He was a bench player on the pro club, but also played for the club’s under-19 affiliate. He averaged 14.2 points per game and nine rebounds, while shooting 50 percent from two-point range on the under-19 team. Ozdogan adds much needed depth to the Seton Hall front court, but should be looked at as a developmental piece.

With the addition of Ozdogan, the Pirates now have only one remaining available scholarship for this upcoming season. If Seton Hall uses it’s last scholarship, I would expect the Pirates to use it on a point guard. Seton Hall returns one true point guard in Kadary Richmond, who is the only Seton Hall returning player who has played significant minutes at the lead guard position in the Big East. If the Pirates do not use their last scholarship, I would expect to see Al-Amir Dawes or Dylan Addae-Wusu play on the ball when Richmond comes off of the floor.

The Pirates have also officially released their non-conference schedule. Shaheen Holloway has once again challenged his team with a difficult schedule. The Pirates could face up to five teams that played in last year’s NCAA Tournament and six opponents that finished in the KenPom Top 60.

The highlight of the Seton Hall non-conference schedule will be the best college basketball rivalry in the state of New Jersey. The Pirates will host Rutgers on Saturday, December 9th in the Garden State Hardwood Classic. Seton Hall will play in the inaugural Rady Children’s Invitational in California, where the Pirates open up against USC on Thanksgiving.

Seton Hall will also be a participant in the Big East-Big 12 Battle. The Pirates will head to Texas for a December 5th showdown with the Baylor Bears. The Pirates will close out non-conference play with a neutral site game against Missouri in Kansas City. Holloway will have his group battle tested before the rigors of Big East play.

The Pirates will also be providing a treat for New Jersey college basketball fans. Seton Hall will host Saint Peter’s, FDU and Monmouth. The Pirates game against FDU will be inside of historic Walsh Gymnasium on Saturday November 11th.
