New Jersey High School Football Battle at the Beach

New Jersey High School football is finally back!

Friday was the first day of three great football events happening this weekend down in Ocean City, New Jersey. There are 24 teams that will play their season opener this weekend and eight of those teams did today.

In Game 1 we had Mainland Regional vs. Washington Township. With this being a six-point game at the half with Mainland Regional leading. Mainland Regional began to pull away in the second half winning 26-7 to knock off Washington Township. Mainland senior Stephen Ordille ran 14 times for 128 yards with a touchdown and also had an interception to help lead his team to victory. 

In Game 2, we had Hammonton vs. St. John Vianney. This one was really never a close game with Hammonton leading 28-7 at the half. Hammonton ended up winning the game with a final score of 35-7 over St. John Vianney. Junior running back Kenny Smith from Hammonton High School helped lead his team to victory with over 200 all purpose yards with five total touchdowns.

In Game 3 Millville faced off against Toms River. This was by far the most talk about game with both schools winning their group state championships last season. Toms River was early at the half leading 14-0, but Millville made it a game, cutting the lead in the fourth making 14-7. Toms River was able to pull away with a late game Interception to beat Millville 14-7. Toms River was led by Stanford 2024 commit Micah Ford and Penn State 2025 commit Jaelyne Matthews. 

In the final game of battle at the beach on Day 1, we had Ocean City vs. Pleasantville. It was a scoreless game at halftime and and one point game going into the fourth with Ocean City leading 7-6. Ocean City was able to score again to help them win the game in a final score of 14-6 over Pleasantville. Ocean City was led by Senior Jon Moyer who had an interception and touchdown catch. 

Day 2 of the Battle at the beach will begin Saturday morning at 9:30 a.m. with West Deptford vs. Hightstown.  Following with Paul VI vs. St. Thomas Aquinas  at 12:15 p.m. and Rancocas Valley vs. Union at 3:00 p.m. With IMG Academy of Florida vs. St. Joseph Prep of PA being the nightcap playing at 7 p.m.
