Princeton Tops Yale as They Earn 2nd Consecutive Conference Win

Saturday night saw the Princeton Tigers take home three important points when they defeated Yale 3-1 at Roberts Field. Before the game, both teams put the rivalry aside to celebrate the Tigers annual pride night at Roberts Field, which saw the first 150 fans receive a pride themed Princeton scarf and the Tigers wearing pride themed warmups.

Amidst the festivities of the night, the Tigers started off the game in dominant style keeping the play in their offensive third for much of the 1st half. Despite the heavy pressure early on, Princeton wasn’t able to capitalize until 26:47 when Pietra Tordin was able to connect with Drew Coomans, who sailed one right past Kyla Holmes for her second of the season.

The Tigers didn’t slow down going into the second half and continued putting on the pressure in their offensive third. This pressure caused Yale to fail on a defensive clearance where the ball fell right at the feet of Heather MacNab who touched it to Tordin, who then tucked the ball into the right corner of the net, notching her 10th of the season, which leads all of the Ivy League.

The Bulldogs weren’t ready to surrender the win just yet, as 11 minutes later they had a response as Ashley Kirscner dished one to Ellery Winkler, who cut the deficit in half. With under five minutes to go, Lexi Hiltunen was able to seal the deal for Princeton as she put away a deflected pass from Kayla Wong.

With Saturday night's win, the Tigers improve to 3-1 in conference play as well as topping their conference wins from the 2022 season. Princeton will be back in action Saturday afternoon when they face Harvard in Cambridge and look to get another three points.
