The Deptford High School basketball team defeated Kingsway Regional, 63-56, on the opening day of the 2023 New Jersey basketball season.
After trailing 29-21 at the half, the Spartans stormed back in the third quarter to take the 43-40 lead into the fourth quarter. Deptford junior Ayden Copestick tallied a game-high four three-point shots, three of which came in the third quarter.

"Tortreports" Player of the Game Copestick paced the Spartan's offense, finishing with 21 points.
The game also marked career win No. 1 for new Deptford head coach Mike Vilary, who previously served as the Junior Varsity coach and succeeded former coach Brandon Williams.

Deptford (1-0) will take on Pennsville this Saturday, while Kingsway (0-1) will tilt with Cherry Hill East in the Jimmy V Classic at Cherokee.
