Another trip to The Rock for the Highlanders?

BERKELEY HEIGHTS, N.J. - Last season, the Governor Livingston Highlanders went 16-5-4 in the regular season, and then had to defend their State Championship title at the Prudential Center. They went on to win the Public C State Championship. The game was the longest in state history and the fourth overtime goal is credited to returning senior Jeremy Siksnius.

“I really didn’t want to play more of the game,” Siksnius shared. “Being one of four defenseman and having played basically 75% of the game, there was absolutely no way my body could handle that.”

He recalls the walk back to the locker room after the third period as a silent one. But, he persevered.

After the quadruple-overtime performance, Governor Livingston is a big Public C school to keep an eye out for this upcoming season, including a spotlight on returning players, senior defensemen Jeremy Siksnius and Jordan Baum, as well as senior forwards Ryan Siksnius, Jackson Benward, Daltry Ferrigno, Anthony Labisi and Brady Silverman.

With their season opener approaching this Friday against St. Joseph Montvale, this squad is ready to bring their A-game.

Just on Monday evening, the Highlanders played a non-league scrimmage against Randolph, where Randolph put up quite a fight in the third period, taking a 7-5 win. Randolph is coming off of a 14-4-4 season playing big opponents such as Morris Knolls, Hunterdon Central, Morristown, Chatham and Morristown-Beard.

Meanwhile, at St. Joseph, the team is getting accustomed to new leadership following the resignation of long-term head coach, Larry Mahurter stepped down after 10 seasons, concluding a 7-13-4 season. The Highlanders are at an advantage here and are starting off this season with a clean slate and a possibility of achieving a perfect record. The road to The Rock starts this Friday night at 9:10pm at Union Sports Arena and you don’t want to miss it.
