Governor Livingston Breaks Livingston Curse

BERKLEY HEIGHTS, N.J. - The Governor Livingston Highlanders ice hockey team headed into the beginning of this week with mixed emotions. Despite winning their season and home opener against St. Joe’s of Montvale, they were heading to play a tough opponent to start off the week. The Highlanders went fully defeated in their last four matchups against Livingston, three of those games happening just this last 2022-2023 season.

What was expected to be a blowout, ended up as a 7-4 hard fought win for the Highlanders. While they go 2-0 until Friday, Livingston must carry their loss and move on 1-1. Tremendous effort was showcased by both teams.

The beginning of the game wasn’t too hopeful for the Highlanders either. Livingston attacked on the offense and were able to protect tremendously on the defense. Livingston was able to put themselves up 2-0 on the board, just a few minutes into the first period. It wasn’t until later in the first period where the Highlanders saw some action, with Jordan Baum scoring on a Power Play which was assisted by Anthony Labisi. Then, 25 seconds later, Owen Cook tied the game on a goal assisted by Jacob Wachtel and Theodore Baum.

The Highlanders were able to absolutely dominate the second period, putting up three more goals on the scoreboard, and keeping the Livingston Lancers scoreless for the entirety of the period. Jackson Benward was able to score on a Power Play to start off the period, which was then followed by goals from Jordan Baum and Alec Novotny.

The third period got immensely chippier, yet the Highlanders were still able to score two more goals, one from Ryan Siksnius, and an empty netter from Jacob Wachtel.

Generally speaking, the Highlanders had quite the impeccable performance. Ten Highlanders were able to put up points, this includes Jordan Baum with two goals and one assist, Owen Cook and Alec Novotny with a goal, Jackson Benward, Ryan Siksnius and Jacob Wachtel each with a goal and an assist, Theodore Baum with three assists, Anthony Labisi with two, and Jeremy Siksnius and Anthony Labisi with one. The team totaled 18 points this game.

Governor Livington’s next matchup is this Friday, December 15th, at 6:50 pm, at none other than Warinanco Park, against Cranford. Cranford is another team to look out for this season as they moved up division, leaving the Kelly and entering the McInnis. You will not want to miss it.
