Rutgers Women’s Golf Places 10th At 2023 Boilermaker Classic

The Scarlet Knights wrapped up their first event of the Fall at the Boilermaker Classic, hosted by Purdue University. Rutgers sat steady at 10th place in a 15-team field event. The three round, two day event featured lots of positives for Rutgers as they look onward into the season.

Round by Round Recap

After round one, Rutgers sat at T9 (tied ninth) place after collecting a team score of plus nine (total to par gross). Leigha Devine and Rikke Nordvik both shot a 72 (E) to sit at T12 place. Lucrezia Rossettin shot a 76 (+4) to sit at T44 and Catharinia Graf shot a 77 (+5) to sit at T55. Lorena Rossettin shot an 80 (+8) to sit at T76, but her score didn’t count towards the team score.

In collegiate golf five players travel and play, but only the top four scores from the five players count towards the actual team score.

After round two, Rutgers sat in solo ninth with a team score of plus 18. Rikke Nordvik led the way sitting at T15 after shooting a 73 (+1). Catharinia Graf sat in T25 and second for the Scarlet Knights after shooting a 71 (-1). Leigha Devine sat in T40 and third for Rutgers after shooting a 78 (+6). Lucrezia Rossettin sat at T45 and fourth for Rutgers after shooting a 75 (+3). Lastly for Rutgers, Lorena Rossettin shot a 79 (+7) to sit at solo 81st place.

After the third and final round, the Scarlet Knights dropped back a spot and sat at solo 10th place as a team. Leigha Devine led the group at T17 after firing a 69 (-3) on the day. Rikke Nordvik came in second for the Scarlet Knights and T37 overall after shooting an 80 (+8).

Catharinia Graf shot a 79 (+7) to sit at T3 for the Scarlet Knights and T47. Lucrezia Rossettin shot a 76 (+4) to also land her at T47 overall and T4th for Rutgers. Finally Lorena Rossettin shot a 76 (+4) to place herself in fifth place for the Scarlet Knights and T73 overall.

Breaking it Down

The two day, three round event proved to be up and down for the Scarlet Knights with a bit of inconsistent play throughout the rounds. However, Rutgers showed lots of positive flashes, including Devine shooting a season low 69 to end the event.

If Rutgers can be a bit more consistent throughout their scoring, the Scarlet Knights will be able to excel more on the leaderboard. For now, the Fall season is all about growing, before the real deal Spring gets here.
