The Scarlet Knights continued to build off of a very hot start Wednesday night, as they downed Rider 3-1. Rutgers' overall record has gone up to 5-1 on the season as the team continues to rack up wins. The victory against Rider marked the 100th win in head coach Caitlin Schweihoferβs career.

Schweihofer, who was hired in January, 2020 has slowly gotten the program better every year. With an average overall winning percentage at Rutgers of .263 (since Spring 2021) the program is only on the way up. The Scarlet Knights are having one of their best starts in the last few years and with five wins already, they are three away from matching the past two years win totals.
In the Big Ten, the Scarlet Knights have struggled under Schweihofer, going 2-38 in conference over the past two years. While the Big Ten is no joke in volleyball, more wins need to be registered for the Scarlet Knights. With the pace Rutgers is on, it will be hard to believe that the Scarlet Knights wonβt be able to pick up more than two wins. If they can keep the intensity and gritty fight they display in games, the Scarlet Knights could be looking at about the same number of Big Ten wins in the 2020-21 season (six), if not more.
Rutgers vs Rider Recap
Against Rider, the Scarlet Knights got to work right away. Rutgers dominated the first set 25-12, but dropped set two 27-25. Tied at one set a piece Rutgers earned the third set 35-21. The Scarlet Knights made a statement in the fourth set, once again dominating Rider 25-15.
Rutgers dominated in all stat categories except eros, attempts, aces and blocks. The Scarlet Knights did have a hitting percentage of .309, which is one of their best of the season. Rutgers made the most of their opportunities and got gritty when the sets werenβt going their way. The Scarlet Knights went on several six/nine point runs to claim victory.
It was a great day to be a Scarlet Knight as Rutgers Volleyball keeps on rolling.
