Rutgers men’s soccer unable to capture win in home opener

In the Rutgers men’s soccer home opener, the Scarlet Knights were looking to get their first win of the season after dropping their first game to Delaware.

Unfortunately, the Scarlet Knights weren’t able to capture victory and had to settle for a 2-2 draw with St. Johns. Rutgers got on the board first after 10 minutes had passed on the clock, thanks to a goal by Luciano Sanchez off a penalty kick. The score was Sanchez’s first collegiate goal ever.

With 14 minutes left to play in the first half, St. Johns responded off of a failed clear by Rutgers.

The Scarlet Knights went into halftime tied 1-1 and wasted no time getting back on the board. Jackson Temple put the ball in the back of the net after a great individual effort.

Sadly the Scarlet Knights couldn’t hold onto the lead, allowing St. Johns to equalize the score once again with less than seven minutes left in the game.

An extremely unfortunate finish for the Scarlet Knights as they fall just short of victory. Rutgers will continue to hunt for their first win of the season against Princeton on Friday.
