Seton Hall finalizes men’s basketball roster with addition of Malachi Brown

The Seton Hall Pirates finalized their 2023-2024 men’s basketball roster with the addition of freshman Malachi Brown. Brown is 6-foot-1 true point guard from Brooklyn. He played his high school basketball in South Carolina at Legacy Early College, where he averaged 22.6 points and 4.3 assists per game.

Brown will have the opportunity to earn playing time behind Kadary Richmond, who is the only returning Pirate who has experience playing point guard. Brown should be looked at as a developmental piece, but will have the opportunity to earn minutes spelling Richmond, along with JaQuan Harris. Harris, the brother of Jamir Harris, missed all of last season with an injury. Shaheen Holloway in the past has used a lot of guards and I would expect one of these two young point guards to contribute in a backup roll next season.

It took the Pirates until the start of the school year to finalize their roster. In this new day and age in college basketball with NIL and the transfer portal, you are seeing teams finalize their rosters closer to the start of the school year. Coach Holloway has brought in some intriguing young talent, who will be crucial for the future of Seton Hall Basketball. The Pirates have struggled with NIL funds to bring in top flight transfers and will have to rely on player development, along with Holloway finding the right players who fit his culture. Brown is the example of that kind of culture and the development of players like him, who stay in a program for four years is what Seton Hall needs to sustain success.
