Rutgers Field Hockey Finishes West Coast trip Undefeated

After a successful 2-0 start on the Scarlet Knights West Coast trip, Rutgers field hockey was looking to finish strong and did they ever. The No. 16 Scarlet Knights were victorious against Cal Berkeley, 2-1.

The Scarlet Knights were able to rally after a slow start and come out on top. After just four minutes had passed in the first quarter Cal was already on the board thanks to a nice backhand shot.

Down by one with plenty of time to play the Scarlet Knights equalized the score in the second quarter thanks to nice passes from Guillermina Causarano and Vicky Jure and the finish from Puck Winter off of a penalty corner.

The Scarlet Knights had a great opportunity late in the first half on a penalty stroke but Cal’s goalie was able to kick away Iris Langejans’ shot.

Rutgers was finally able to get on top in the third quarter thanks to a far out strike by Guillermina Causarano. The Scarlet Knights took the 2-1 advantage and held it for the rest of the game.

The Scarlet Knights had an impressive start to the season in California, going 3-0 against some good competition. Rutgers will have a real challenge on Friday when they face the No. 15 ranked UConn Huskies.
