Rutgers Field Hockey Blanks Stanford for Second Victory On West Coast Trip

After starting the season 1-0 with a nice 2-1 victory over UC Davis, the #16 Scarlet Knights continued to win on their West Coast trip as they took down Stanford with a score of 2-0. Rutgers struck early in the first quarter and was able to hold onto the lead the rest of the game.

At 8:30 on the clock in the first quarter, Rutgers was given a corner opportunity and the Scarlet Knights capitalized. Vicky Jure and Iris Langejans worked together to get the ball to Puck Winter, who buried it in the net.

Less than a minute after Winter’s goal, Rutgers was given another golden opportunity off of a penalty corner. However, this penalty was different and the Scarlet Knights were put on the dot.

Iris Langejans stepped up to the penalty stroke opportunity and finished for the Scarlet Knights. Just like that Rutgers had a two-goal lead.

Rutgers almost boosted their lead up to three in the third quarter, but after a review Noelle Leaf’s attempt was overturned and did not count. Regardless, the Scarlet Knights defense held their ground and prevented the Cardinals from ever seeing the back of the net.

With one more game left on the Scarlet Knights' California trip, let's see if Rutgers can keep rolling.
