PWHL New York Preview: Keys to Victory versus Montreal

Wednesday night will be the third game of the season for PWHL New York and this time they will face off against a new foe, Montreal. New York will be the home team once again, but they’ll be playing at UBS Arena this time instead of Total Mortgage Arena. Both teams come into this game after a loss and will look to bounce back on Wednesday night.

PWHL New York’s last matchup against Toronto saw them lose a back-and-forth game 3-2 in front of their home fans. Wednesday provides New York with another opportunity to win for their fans, but their play has to be far better.

New York’s biggest weakness during that game was their special teams, as two of Toronto’s three goals were scored against New York’s special teams. If New York wants to keep themselves in games, they have to sharpen those lines. New York especially has to ensure that they don’t give up any goals on the power play. Last game, Toronto not only scored the game winner on a New York power play but with the jail break rule in the PWHL, New York also lost their power play on that goal.

New York also needs to play a cleaner style of play as they took four penalties in the last game. While New York has only played two games thus far, it’s crystal clear that they know how to work the even strength game. When they play at even strength their chemistry is electric which allows them to take full dominance of the game. In their two games New York has scored six goals and all six of those goals have come at even strength,

Wednesday’s matchup is stacking up to be an electric matchup as this is the first time the two teams will face off against each other. If New York can build upon improving these aspects of their game, they will be the stars of the show at UBS Arena.
