New York Giants Lose Preseason Game 1 vs. Detroit Lions

On Friday, August 11th, the New York Giants faced the Detroit Lions in a preseason game at Ford Field, Michigan. The Giants had just finished their annual training camp at Quest Lab Diagnostics of MetLife last weekend, August 5th.

As the first quarter commenced, the New York Giants took the lead. Graham Gano, #9 Kicker, kicking a 48-yard field goal early in the quarter, giving the Giants a 3-0 advantage. Then, roughly four minutes later,  Gano once again made a field goal, at forty-two yards, pushing the Giants to a 6-0 lead. By the second quarter, the Giants were still up by three against the Lions, as the Lions scored late in the first quarter with a 39-yard field goal by Riley Patterson.

As the second quarter comes to an end, Tommy DeVito, the Giants quarterback, made an insane fourteen-yard pass to tight end Tommy Sweeney from a Gano kick, leaving the Giants leading 13-3. Tommy DeVito is an undrafted rookie from New Jersey and also a free agent, playing along other Giants quarterbacks, Daniel Jones and Tyrod Taylor. Throughout the game, it was highly noticeable how well the Giants defensive corners have increased exponentially and improved since last season, giving the Giants defense a push this year.

After halftime, the Giants 10-point lead began to fall apart. As the third quarter began, the Lions wide receiver, Maurice Alexander, scored a touchdown from a ninety-five-yard punt return just a few minutes into the third quarter. With a pass from quarterback, Nate Sudfeld to wide receiver, Jameson Williams for a Two-Point Conversion. Bumping the Lions up eight points, leaving the score 13-11, Giants. Lions kicker, John Parker Romo, kicks a twenty-eight-yard field goal, giving the Lions a 14-13 lead over the Giants with three minutes remaining in the third...

As the fourth quarter begins, the New York Giants still have time to come back and are only down by one point. At late 7:59 in the quarter,  Gano kicked a 47-yard field goal, giving the Giants a two-point lead back at 16-14.

With less than two minutes remaining in the final quarter, the Giants called a quick timeout, before the Lions took the game for good. Closing at 1:51 left in the quarter, the Lions undrafted rookie Adrian Martinez ran it in from one yard out and John Parker Romo kicked in the extra point, giving the Lions their last touchdown of the night to beat the New York Giants 21-16.
