Tale of Two Halves as Montclair State fall To Hartford

It was the best of halves, it was the worst of halves for the Montclair State Red Hawks. The women’s soccer team took on Hartford and looked to be in complete control the entire first half of the game.

While both schools ended the half with four shots, the Red Hawks were controlling the ball well and were backed by strong defense. Through the first 22 minutes of the half, neither team was able to put the ball in the net.

Montclair State finally broke through in the 23rd minute when Kylie Pendergast found Madeline Lesica to give the Red Hawks a 1-0 lead going into half.

The second half was all Hartford after the first 10 minutes of the half remained scoreless, Hartford broke through to tie the game in the 56th minute when Ishani Sharma was able to get by Red Hawks keeper Haley Martin.

Hartford took the lead a little less than three minutes later on a corner kick that found the back of the net. They rattled off two more goals, extending their lead to 4-1 by the 66th minute of the second half.

The Red Hawks were not able to break through after that, and dropped their home opener 4-1. Montclair will look to bounce back when they square off against New Paltz on Wednesday night at MSU Soccer Park.
