3ICE

3ICE returns to Prudential Center this summer

The third season of 3ICE will start in Clarksville, Tennessee on June 12th and eventually return to New Jersey. This three-on-three, bracket-style tournament will occur in nine cities across the United States each Wednesday from June 12th to August 14th.

NJ Devils legend Ken Daneyko, also known as “Mr. Devil,” will be the head coach of 3ICE NY/NJ. Daneyko played his entire 22-year career with the Devils, winning the only three Stanley Cups in franchise history.

Tickets will go on sale on Friday, March 1st at 10:00 a.m. With exciting changes to the league, the third season of 3ICE is expected to be the best yet.

What is 3ICE?

3ICE is very different from the NHL. The games consist of two eight-minute halves with a running clock, and the clock will only stop for penalties and injuries.

In this league, there are no power plays. If a penalty is taken, the opposing team is rewarded with a penalty shot where the coach will get to pick who takes the shot. Intention icing is considered a penalty, and the other team will be awarded a penalty shot. If a regular hockey play happens to end in an icing, that play will continue as an icing. If a player shoots on an empty net from behind the center net and misses, that then turns into a penalty shot.

There is no overtime after the two halves are over. Instead, it will go into one-round shootouts until a winner is crowned.

Goalies are allowed to play the puck anywhere on the ice. The blue area around the goal is called “The Clear Zone.” Play is paused if a goalie makes a clear save in that area. The goalie can reset play while the opponent must be outside the zone. No one is allowed to hover around the goalie as he is restarting the puck.

If the offensive team brings the puck back across the center ice line after being in the offensive zone to reset the play, it will be a turnover for that team.

If the puck goes out of play into the netting and bounces back into play, the play will resume as is.

Coaches are not allowed to challenge, and there will be no instant replays for offsides.
