Week 13 Preview: New York Jets face the Minnesota Vikings

After their big win over the Chicago Bears, the Jets face their biggest test in the Minnesota Vikings. The Vikings are currently the number two seed in the NFC, and the Jets are the seventh seed in the AFC. Major playoff implications are on the line as both teams are looking to get ahead of the competition. With that in mind, here is a preview of Sunday's showdown.

What To Expect

Playoff Implications

As I mentioned in the intro, both teams want to get into the playoffs. In the NFL, playoff position is everything and both teams need a win to keep up with the other teams in the playoff hunt.

Mike White

After last week's epic performance, quarterback Mike White faces a Vikings passing defense that ranks 31st in the league in opponents passing yards. New York's offense will have a field day with this defense.

Road Warriors

The Jets are 4-1 on the road this season. They play better on the road.

Just The Facts

  • Jets Domination: In their last five meetings, Gang Green won three of those meetings. However, the Vikings won the previous two meetings, most recently in 2018.
  • First Time Visiting: This will be the first time the Jets will play at U.S. Bank Stadium, which opened in 2016.
  • Spurned: The Jets offered current Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins $90M in 2018, but Cousins declined it. Maybe it was for the best?

Five Big Questions To Ask

  1. Will QB Mike White repeat his performance from last week?
  2. How will the Jets' secondary stop NFL MVP candidate wide receiver Justin Jefferson?
  3. Will the Vikings' defense slow down this Jets' offense?
  4. Sauce Gardner vs. Justin Jefferson: How will that play out?
  5. Can they keep the road success going?

Who is on the injury report

OUT: S Ashtyn Davis (hamstring)

Doubtful: RB Michael Carter (ankle)

Prediction

Both teams are trying to keep momentum in their postseason run, but the Vikings are a much better team than the Jets. I believe Mike White will carve up this Vikings' passing defense, but I think the Vikings will prevail. It will be a close game.

Final Score: Vikings 14, Jets 13
