New Jersey Devils - Timo Meier

Timo Meier Stays Hot in Devils Win Over Blues

Timo Meier has been shot out of a cannon. Meier led the New Jersey Devils to a 4-1 victory over the St. Louis Blues, recording his first hat-trick with the team. Meier has been on a hot streak, which continued Thursday night.

The Devils got off to a good start in this game, which the team has not been accustomed to this season. Meier scored a power-play goal midway through the period off a beautiful backhand shot that got past Blues goalie Jordan Binnington. This was Meier's first game playing on the top power-play unit this season, and he was able to net one, which set the tone for the game. Meier buried another goal just 2:40 minutes later off a beautiful feed by Ondrej Palat to the slot.

The Blues would make it a one-goal game off of a Brandon Saad goal in the second period, but Meier responded just over 7 minutes later when he sniped one past Binnington to complete the hat-trick. Meier blew the roof off the Prudential Center as hats poured all over the ice.

Erik Haula added the empty net goal late in the third period to secure the Devils' 4-1 win over the Blues. Meier assisted on the goal which capped off a four-point night for him.

Meier was moved to the right wing on the top line along Nico Hischier and Ondrej Palat. Meier has been playing on the left wing for the majority of the season, which is not his natural position. He can play both positions, but it is clear after Thursday night that he is much more comfortable playing on the right wing. Meier was driving play, crashing the net, shooting pucks, and causing havoc. The Devils need to keep him at right wing for the remainder of this season.

Meier is finally starting to look like the player the Devils paid $70.4 Million to. It's unsurprising, considering Meier has been battling multiple injuries this season. But the Swiss Star is healthy and 100% as he is finding the back of the net with ease.

Meier is currently putting up numbers on the score sheet, putting up 11 points in his last 7 games. He is also riding a four-game goal streak. He looks like a whole new player and has gained a lot of confidence over this stretch. The Devils are going to need Meier to keep this up if they want to keep their playoff hopes alive.

Meier will look to continue his offensive outburst when the Devils host the Carolina Hurricanes on Saturday at 12:30 p.m.
