On a cool September night at MSU Soccer Park, the Montclair State Red Hawks kicked off their 2023 season with a 2-0 win over NYU Friday night.
It took all of three minutes for the Red Hawks to get on the board. Amer Lukovic headed a cross that found the back of the net to put Montclair up 1-0 early.
Lukovic picked up right where he left off firing off firing in 5 shots on the night and stood out as the main leader.
Shane Keenan finished the game with three saves, including a huge stop in the 28th minute to keep NYU shutout.
Montclair put the game away in the 2nd half when Ian Chesney hit Lukovic on a beautiful ball over the top and Lukovic snuck the ball past NYU goalkeeper Luca Mancuso to make it 2-0.
The Red Hawks dominated the game offensively, outshooting NYU 14-7 and rolling to their first win of the year. They will host Hunter College on Sunday at 4 pm and look to advance to 2-0 on the season.
