Hudson Catholic's 2023 football season is officially over after just two games. The schools' athletic director made the announcement after a series of season-ending injuries depleted the team roster. The news was first reported by NJ Advance Media.
Nick Mariniello (Hudson Catholic AD) was left with no choice but to protect the health of his student-athletes by ending the season.
The team was left in a tough sport this summer when longtime head coach Lou Zampella stepped down after 11 seasons - this after 17 seniors graduated from last year's squad. Dan Hicks was hired as the replacement. While most schools are doing summer workouts, Hicks had to quickly get up to speed with an inexperienced roster.
Hudson Catholic typically faces a daunting schedule, playing in the Super Football Conference White Division featuring top teams like Pope John, DePaul, Paramus Catholic, and Delbarton.
Hudson Catholic, a Jersey City based school, played two games this season, losing big to Paramus Catholic and Long Island Lutheran (NY). They removed a previously scheduled game against Monsignor Farrell (NY) last week, and forfeited their scheduled home game against Columbia this week.
