West Essex Dominates on Way to North II Title

North Caldwell – The New Jersey field hockey powerhouse that is West Essex asserted itself in the NJSIAA North Jersey, Group II championship game, defeating Hackettstown 7-0 for its eighth straight sectional title.

The Knights, who are ranked No. 2 in NJ.com’s Top 20, shut out their opponent for the fourth straight week, and 17th time this season. West Essex’s offense was the Knights’ best defense as they rarely allowed Hackettstown to possess the ball, leading to only four Tiger shots compared to the West Essex’s 64.

Gianna Macrino and Sophia Sisco led the way offensively for West Essex.  Macrino recorded a hat trick while Sisco had two goals for the Knights.  Nicole Campolattaro, Adelaide Minnella, and Evangeline Minnella led West Essex in assists with two helpers a piece.

While Hackettstown was able to muster four shots, West Essex goalie, Abby Zanelli was not forced to make any saves.  The story was different for Zanelli’s counterparts from Hackettstown, Emily Newton and Abigail Zellars, who, while being peppered with shots all game long, made 45 stops between the two of them.

West Essex to play Point Pleasant Boro for Group 2 State Title

With the result, Hackettstown ends their season at 17-6, while West Essex moves onto face NJ.com No. 7 Point Pleasant Boro in the state Group 2 championship game at Bordentown Saturday.
