Timo Meier Stays Hot after Devils Recent Victory

Timo Meier has seemed to find his groove again despite struggling after returning from injury.

New Jersey head coach Lindy Ruff recently stated that the Devils' top six forward has not been performing as usual because he was not 100% healed. Many fans wondered if it was time to let Meier sit a few games to fully heal.

Meier got hurt on Nov. 14 against the Winnipeg Jets and did not return to the lineup until Dec. 1. After returning he went pointless for nine games, and it was clear something was still lingering from his injury. His skating seemed off, he wasn’t hitting as much as usual. He was a completely different player compared to before his injury.

Some games Meier looked like his usual self, but his puck luck was not there, and he wasn’t able to collect any points.

On Dec. 21 Meier finally broke his pointless streak and goal drought by finding the back of the net against the Edmonton Oilers. Then two nights later he found the back of the net twice in a win over the Detroit Red Wings.

After scoring three goals in two games, fans started to wonder if Meier had finally turned the corner.

Meier scored the overtime game-winning goal against the Columbus Blue Jackets, making it four goals in three games. Also, stopped fans from questioning if he should be playing or not.

As someone who was brought in to score goals for this team, it is hard to be easy on Meier as fans and Devils staff have high expectations from him. Fans started to even question if his eight-year contract was worth it.

Meier is an important piece of this Devils core and will remain an important player for years to come. It is important to get him going away and hopefully it remains “Timo Time”.
