Jets Sign 2 Linemen To Strengthen Offensive and Defensive Front

Monday was a crazy day for many teams around the NFL. From surprise signings to surprise cuts, teams around the league made plenty of noise. The New York Jets remained quiet for most of the day but made a couple of signings to help bolster their roster deep into Monday night.

Signed: John Simpson, OL

It’s no secret that Gang Green needs to improve on the O-line next year. New York cannot afford another Aaron Rodgers injury, and they took a step in the right direction with Simpson. The 26-year-old left guard started every game for Baltimore last year. Durability may be Simpson’s strength, but he needs to reduce his penalties. Last year, with the Ravens, John was flagged for 10 penalties, six of them being holding calls.

Simpson’s pass blocking last year was in the top 25 among guards in the NFL, with a 92.5% pass block win rate.

Signed: Javon Kinlaw, DT

Kinlaw is coming off a career year out in San Fransisco, posting career highs in multiple categories. The big issue with him will be whether or not he can stay on the field for New York, especially with that turf at Metlife. An ACL injury hampered the 26-year-old in 2021, and in 2022 had to have a part in the 49ers not picking up his 5th-year option.

Kinlaw bounced back in 2023 playing in all 20 of San Frans games, notching 3.5 sacks on the year to go along with his 4 TFL. On a one-year “prove it” deal, this is a good signing for Gang Green to bolster their defense.
