Drew University Men's Lacrosse Dominates Purchase College

Drew University men’s lacrosse team cruised to a non-conference victory Wednesday, defeating the Purchase Panthers 16-2 in Madison, New Jersey. Seven different players scored a goal for the Rangers to lead a balanced offense in an impressive win.

From the moment these two teams began to clash, Drew (3-2) proved they had the upper hand in Wednesday’s night game. In the first two minutes, Drew gathered themselves an earlier 2-0 lead with 13:01 to play in the first quarter.

Sophomore attackmen Mike DeMayo, had himself a night. He was able to put four goals in the back of the net, while also dishing himself four assists. DeMayo controlled the offensive from X. He used his playmaking abilities to help junior Matt Giordano and freshmen Colin Diodato earn their first goals of the season.

Drew would maintain possession for the majority of the first half, only allowing Purchase to have one shot on goal.  Purchase (1-1)  struggled heavily with clearing the ball on defense, and this gave them no scoring opportunities.

Senior attackmen Craig Wilkie, earned himself his second hat trick of the season. With 5:42 to play in the third quarter, Craig Wilkie found his third and final goal of the game after an impressive dodge that gave Drew a 10-0 lead. Both Wilkie (12gs) and DeMayo (15gs)  currently lead Drew's offense in scoring.

Shortly after, Wilkie found sophomore midfielder Charlie Collins for his third goal of the game with 4:26 remaining, boosting Drew's lead to 12-0. Purchase was desperately looking to score the ball to avoid the shutout. After being scoreless for the majority of three quarters, Angus Goldman spun around his defender and ripped a shot for their first goal of the night.

Four different players would score in the fourth quarter and the Rangers captured the win over Purchase in their first matchup in school history. Three different goalies saw action for Drew. Freshman Matt Duarte saved Purchase's only first-half shot on goal. Sawyer Kennedy and Yoel Ovadya held down the Rangers net in the second half only allowing one Purchase goal.
