Week 6 Preview: New York Giants host Baltimore Ravens

Week 6 of the NFL season is upon us, and with that comes a huge matchup between the 4-1 New York Giants and the 3-2 Baltimore Ravens. The new culture that Brian Daboll has instilled within the Giants organization was on full display last week when the Giants shocked everyone and beat the Green Bay Packers. While defeating the Baltimore Ravens is no easy task, these new-look Giants certainly have what it takes to pull off another upset.

Let's break down this Week 6 matchup!

What To Expect

  • Wink Martindale to throw Lamar Jackson off his game, but maybe with a little less blitzing
  • JPP to build on his production over the past two weeks. He has had a solid couple of games for the Ravens, which is exactly the spark they needed in the pass rush
  • A chess match between Wink Martindale and Ravens defensive coordinator Mike MacDonald
  • Ronnie Stanley to add much-needed help to the Ravens' offensive line
  • The Ravens to take Saquon Barkley out of the game and force Daniel Jones to throw
  • The Ravens to continue to be creative when getting Devin Duvernay the ball
  • The Giants to keep Lamar Jackson in the pocket
  • The Giants to get the ball deep to Darius Slayton

Numbers Don't Lie

  • Lamar Jackson is a perfect 12-0 against NFC East teams
  • Against the blitz, Lamar Jackson has 7 TD passes and a passer rating of 124.0, which is the most among quarterbacks
  • The Ravens' pass defense is ranked last in the NFL thanks in part to that Miami game, injuries, and a young secondary
  • Baltimore's defense has eight interceptions and three fumble recoveries
  • Lamar Jackson is 4-6 in his last ten road games
  • Daniel Jones has 0 interceptions in 5 of his last six home games
  • Ravens are wearing all white for this game as they are 43-57 in their all-white look
  • The Giants have a 34.1% chance to win this matchup
  • The Ravens lead this series all-time at 5-2
  • The Ravens are allowing a league-high 290.2 passing yards per game
  • Over the past two weeks, Daniel Jones has only been sacked twice

Key Matchup of the Game

Wink Martindale vs. Lamar Jackson

  • I love a good revenge game as much as the next person, but the thing about revenge games is that both sides know what to expect from the other side. Of course, we expect Wink Martindale to have the inside knowledge of how to contain Lamar Jackson and keep him in the pocket. However, that also means that the Ravens know exactly how Wink Martindale operates, which allows them to plan accordingly. I expect the Giants' defense to give Lamar Jackson a hard time for most of the game. I am not sure that you can ever fully contain a guy like Lamar Jackson, so minimizing the damage he can do is the name of the game here. However, the Giants have a feisty defense and are disruptive in the backfield. Look for Wink Martindale to knock Jackson off his game and keep him in the pocket.

Take the bet? NYG +5 BAL-5 O/U 45

Big Blue's 4-1 record matches their 4-1 ATS record, which also happens to be my record when it comes to picking Big Blue ATS. The Ravens are 5-2 ATS in their past seven games, while the Giants are 0-5 ATS in the past five games against the AFC North. The under makes sense, as both teams love to run the ball. The Giants have hit the under in their last 16 games and the Ravens have hit the under in their previous 12. Big Blue is getting 65% of the money.

Who Wins

As much as I want to pick New York here, I think the Ravens (who are tied for first with 11 takeaways so far this season) will force a couple of turnovers which will be the deciding factor in the game. I fully expect a black-and-blue game as the Ravens are looking to get their second straight win and stay on top of the AFC North, while the Giants are looking to prove everyone wrong and keep pace in the NFC East.

Ravens win. Giants cover. Take the under
