Forward Tomas Nosek signs one-year deal with Devils

On Wednesday, New Jersey Devils general manager Tom Fitzgerald announced the signing of forward Tomas Nosek to a one-year, $1 million contract.

The 30-year old veteran forward played 66 games last season with the Boston Bruins. In those games, he put up 18 points (7 goals,11 assists). He also played in each of the Bruins playoff games where he assisted on two goals.

Nosek is an eigh-year pro, playing in 398 games with the Detroit Red Wings, Vegas Golden Knights and the Bruins. In his eight seasons, he has totaled 101 points (42 goals, 59 assists) while racking up 146 penalty minutes.

As the Devils have had recent success, many are hoping to continue to make playoff runs in the future seasons. Nosek is the perfect player to be joining the Devils as he has made the playoffs in each season of his career.

A winning team needs a player who knows how to win championships. Nosek was part of the Vegas Golden Knights’ Western Conference Championship team and played in the Stanley Cup Final in 2018.

As the season begins to get closer, the future lineup is becoming more evident. Nosek could slide into the third line on Erik Haula’s wing. Or Haula and Nosek could switch places as they both have experience in these positions. Either way, the veteran line of Nosek, Haula and Ondrej Palat could be the exact line of leadership and experience the Devils need.

Haula and Nosek played together while on the Golden Knights, so the chemistry between them might already be there. It also should make Nosek’s transition to the Devils easier.

A depth signing is never a bad thing, especially a signing with someone with as much playoff experience. It should be a fun season as the Devils' line-up begins to get put together.
