Red Bulls single goal takes down NYCFC in the Bronx

It has been over five years since the New York Red Bulls earned a victory against their Blue rivals in the Big Ballpark in the Bronx. Since the seven-goal clean sheet Red Wedding, the Red Bulls have either earned a point or lost all of the points. After 90 minutes of hard-fought action and determination, the team in Red team got the win with a one goal to nil victory.

In the 43rd minute, it was Bronx Native Omir Fernandez who buried the ball past Sean Johnson to open the scoring. After Fernandez was along the near side of the field, he found Sean Davis at the top of the area, then a nice cross to Kyle Duncan. He was defended well but made a nice move to get to the end line, and when he made his pass to an open area, that's when Fernandez got to the ball and converted his second goal in three matches.

"I think it was an unexpected moment for me, I'm always in the box, always trying to get those balls into the box, trying to score those goals anyway that I can." said Omir Fernandez, "When I saw it coming straight towards me, It was a bit of a blur after I scored, then I saw everyone surrounding me.

"This felt like the way I scored in the Miami game, I could see everything happen in front of me and I knew that I put it and all I could think of was to go and celebrate with my teammates when we took the lead. "

Carlos Coronel was a monster in the net for the Red Bulls and made several spectacular saves, including two point-blank saves at his net in the first half & one late in the second half. NYCFC having 14 totals shots with four of them on goal, Coronel was able to do a job and earned his clean sheet.

Before the game began, this was Gerhard Struber's best tactical game plan in this current season. The players got off to a great start and while they did absorb the pressure from the home side, they took over and found ways to frustrate the blue side, played strong defense, and made several attacking runs to put NYCFC into disarray.

"I think in the end a big win feel relief right now, I think from the tape today, our behavior and belief together we feel, we had so much control. most of the time our pressure our synchronized moments were difficult to manage by New York City and they made many questions. This is one step further in our process and I felt that the determination from the boys was very good in tonight's win, in the end, we deserve the win, it's a big win, it's a big feeling and to win away from home against this team on this level." Said Gerhard Struber"

The Red Bulls are currently on a three-match unbeaten streak and have earned even points to make an attempt to try and climb into a playoff position. But they still have to challenge sides like Philadelphia, DC United, Nashville, facing NYCFC one more time and make up the postponed home match against Inter Miami at Red Bull Arena during the international window in October.

But right now things are going well and these young Red Bulls are starting to understand what a team is supposed to do together and play for each other for an entire 90 minutes on the pitch in Major League Soccer. IT feels good right now, and this good feeling must continue to grind out results and be on the positive side of the standings.
