Princeton takes down Brown for second shutout in four games

On Saturday, the Princeton Tigers faced the Brown Bears in their second ECAC Conference game. Both teams were eager to gain their first win as Brown had previously lost to Quinnipiac, while Princeton fell to Yale. However, the team from New Jersey gathered the win in a fast-paced, defense-based game.

The game was defender Kate Monihan and forward Daniella Calabrese's 100th game playing as Tigers.

In the first ten minutes of the game, Princeton showed dominance, but the Bears got through the team's defense and made good offensive plays. This game was especially good for the teams' goalies, Uma Corniea (Princeton) and Kaley Doyle (Brown), having 17 and 34 saves, respectively. Corniea's work on not allowing the other team to get the possible rebounds has been incredible.

Princeton has shown that they have been working on killing penalties, an issue they faced last season. They have shown great improvement and haven't allowed any goal during them.

With a rebound, the Tigers struck first. Back off the skate of Doyle, Emerson O'Leary got her third goal of the season and the lead for Princeton.

During the second period, the domination the Tigers showed in the first was downsided and a more fast-paced game ensued with good goal chances for both teams. When the clock hit 15:51, Sarah Fillier, the Captain, shot on a wide-open goal gathering Princeton their second goal. With great passes from Mia Coene and Issy Wunder, this showed the good chemistry this team has had through the season.

In the third period, Brown had a good start but couldn't score. To finish the game for Princeton, Fillier had her second goal and her fourth in the season, making her the team-leader on the stats. With the last goal, Fillier was crowned the player of the game.

What's Next For Princeton

The Tigers will face St. Lawrence at home on October 27th. This is a game where we expect to see more of the Tigers defensive side, which we are yet to see much in this season.
