Three days in to bracket play for the Men's College World Series, Florida remains unbeaten and will need to be beaten twice by a bracket contender to not make the National Championship while Virginia was the first team to two losses meaning they have been eliminated.

Men's College World Series Bracket 1 Summary:

Game 2

  • TCU defeated Virginia in a heated elimination showdown, making the Cavaliers the first team to be eliminated from the tournament. The Horned Frogs pitcher Sam Stoutenborough retired 12 straight Cavaliers hitters after allowing back-to-back hits to lead off the bottom of the first inning Sunday. Virginia-native Ethan Anderson (C/UT, Sophomore) hit a solo home run in the seventh to inch the Cavaliers within one run, but they couldn’t pull it off, and ultimately lost 4-3.

“I thought he did a great job with his changeup and his curveball and then being able to sneak the fastball by some guys when he needed to,” Head Coach Kirk Saarloos said of his right-handed starter.

  • The winner’s side was no exception of drama. It seemed early on that the Florida Gators would take this one without ease, but that wasn’t the case as the Oral Roberts Golden Eagles pushed the needle closer and closer, loading the bases in the eighth and ninth innings, and coming within two runs, but it wasn’t enough to fend off the Gators. Florida’s starting pitcher Hurston Waldrep pitched an absolutely dominant game with 12 K’s through six innings, while offensively, Josh Rivera, Ty Evans and Luke Heyman all homered.

Men's College World Series Bracket 2 Summary:

Game 1

  • A Midwestern storm brought the Demon Deacons of Wake Forest a much needed storm of their own. Up until a mid-game storm delay, they had been held to three hits, but when play resumed, the “demons” came out to play. Brooklyn, New York-native Danny Corona (INF, Sophomore) banged out a two-run single in the bottom of the eighth to give Wake Forest the lead and ultimately the 3-2 victory.

"We call ourselves the king of delay," infielder Brock Wilken said. "Every time we have a delay, we come out with so much energy, and our vibe is immediately switched."

  • Omaha! Omaha! Peyton Manning was in the house repping his Tennessee Vols as they faced LSU in Game 1. The Vols couldn’t get past the best pitcher in the nation, the probable No. 1 pick in the MLB Draft, and the Tigers’ ace Paul Skenes who tossed four different pitches for strikes with 12 strikeouts in 7⅔ innings. He keeps teams guessing and that is an invaluable tool for the Tigers. Paul’s Vols domination start gave LSU the 6-3 win.

Game 2

  • If one didn't know this was an elimination game prior, you could have quickly picked up on that component early on in the game. This just might have been the most exciting game yet. It appeared early on that Stanford would stand the test, having held the Vols to zero runs and scoring four of their own, but down 0-4 at the top of the fifth, the Vols came out swinging to shut down Stanford ace Quin Mathews. Hunter Ensley ignited the four-run inning spark with a sac fly to left field that scored Denton to get Tennessee on the board before Jared Dickey hit an RBI single to trim Stanford's lead to 4-2. Vols second baseman Christian Moore then hit a two-out, two-run single back up the middle to tie the game at four. The Vols held Stanford and stringed together two more runs to advance with a 6-4 win.

Tennessee vs. Stanford Highlights

  • Wake Forest remains unbeaten as they defeated LSU on Monday night 3-2. The Demon Deacons will advance to the semi finals along with the Gators of Florida. This was the first loss for the Tigers, so they will play in an elimination game Tuesday. It was another one of those games where the starter overstayed his welcome. In this outing, LSU starter Ty Floyd didn't allow a hit until the fourth inning and struck out 10 through his first five frames. In the sixth inning, however, the Demon Deacons came alive and the tides completely turned the other way. After walking the bases loaded, Floyd allowed the Deacs to score twice and tie the game. In the eighth, Bennett Lee drove in Danny Corona to take the first lead of the night. The Deacs bullpen then did its job allowing just one hit over three scoreless innings of work.
