NJ/NY Gotham FC announced the team's 28-player preseason roster. There are four goalkeepers, ten defenders, seven midfielders, and seven forwards.
Of the 28 on the roster are 20 players from last season's championship-winning roster. The eight new players include five free-agent signings: Crystal Dunn, Emily Sonnett, Rose LaVelle, Tierna Davidson, and Ella Stevens. The Bats acquired Sam Hiatt and Cassie Miller via trade, and Maycee Bell joins the team as their sole 2024 draft pick.
The roster includes three international players: Maitane, Bruninha, and Ester. Gotham also has one non-roster invitee, Kearny, New Jersey native Megan McClelland.
Gotham began their preseason training on last weekend with the team heading down to Bradenton, Florida. After preseason training concludes, the team will head to Cali, Colombia for the Women's Cup Colombia, which starts on February 27. The Bats return home to Red Bull Arena to face off against San Diego Wave on March 15.
The preseason will allow the chemistry of this team to continue to build as the returning players will look to build upon their championship season. Many incoming players have already established relationships with returning US Women's National Team players, making the transition to a new team slightly easier.
The challenge will come with Gotham FC's playing style. With about a month until the first game, new players will have to quickly adapt to Head Coach Juan Carlos Amorós' quicker attacking style of play.
