NJ/NY Gotham FC Add Sam Hiatt to Their Backline

NJ/NY Gotham FC has acquired defender Sam Hiatt in a three-way deal between Gotham, Racing Louisville, and Seattle Reign FC.

Gotham traded an allocation of $60,000 to Racing Louisville for Julia Lester before trading Lester and $20,000 in allocation to Seattle for Hiatt.

Hiatt was drafted 33rd overall by Seattle Reign in the 2020 draft, playing all of her four seasons in the league with the club. She has made 44 appearances since the 2021 season and started in all 44 matches. Hiatt was also a member of the 2022 Reign team that won the NWSL Shield, the award given to the team with the best record at the end of the regular season. During the 2023 season Hiatt started 16 matches and led the team with 65 clearances.

"I am excited to join Gotham, especially during such an exciting time for the club and the fans," Hiatt said. "I am really looking forward to joining this team and I cannot wait to get to work."

As 'the Bats' look to improve on their regular season standings, they have signed on a strong group of defenders, adding to their "super team" that they won the NWSL championship with, last season. Hiatt is the fourth defender who has been signed by Gotham this offseason, following Tierna Davidson, Emily Sonnett, and 2024 draft pick Maycee Bell. The Bats are looking to bolster their backline with players coming and going through free agency and the retirement of Ali Krieger.

The NWSL will be releasing its schedule for 2024 today, so Gotham will have a look ahead to the regular season after adding new additions to their roster. After finishing sixth in last year's NWSL standings, Gotham looks to defend their NWSL title by finishing a bit higher in the table.

Before the season does kickoff, the Bats face off against San Diego Wave FC in the NWSL Challenge Cup at Red Bull Arena in Harrison.
