Seven Gotham FC Players Called up to the USWNT

The US Women's National Team roster was announced for the upcoming CONCACAF W Gold Cup. NJ/NY Gotham FC has a record seven players called up to the 23 player roster, with Tierna Davidson, Crystal Dunn, Rose Lavelle, Jenna Nighswonger, Midge Purce, Emily Sonnett and Lynn Williams all called up for training camp.

Davidson has appeared in 51 matches for the national team, scoring one goal and assisting seven. Dunn has the most caps of any player called into the national team camp with 140. She was also nominated for 2023 U.S. Soccer Female Player of the Year. The second year NWSL player, Nighswonger made her first USWNT training camp in Dec. 2023, having made her national team debut on Dec. 2 and having her first start on Dec. 5 both against China PR.

Lavelle has 92 caps and 24 goals with the national team. Sonnett has 83 caps and 2 goals. Purce has made 26 appearances and has scored 2 goals for the USWNT and Williams has 59 caps and 17 goals in her national team career.

A press conference with interim head coach Twila Kilgore was held yesterday. There was a specific question asked of Coach Kilgore about Lavelle and her consistent presence on the national team.

"She is a special player who has the ability to raise the level of players around her," Kilgore said of the midfielder.

This should be reflected once the NWSL season gets under way for Gotham.

With seven Gotham players on this roster should allow the chemistry to develop even more. It also looks good for Gotham, whose roster is filled with national team players, even outside the seven called up. The experience helps other Gotham players too with the NWSL super team on the radar of USWNT coaches for the upcoming Summer Olympics. The national team experience runs deep on this team and once the season gets started it will definitely be reflected in the play of this team.
