The 2023 Central Jersey Group 1 champion Point Pleasant Beach Girls Soccer team defeated South Jersey group 1 champion Audubon, 3-0, in the group 1 state semifinal game Thursday evening. That was largely part due to sophomore Baileigh Johnson's excellent play. Johnson totaled one goal and two assists, leading her team back to the NJSIAA Group 1 state final for the second consecutive season.
"We knew we had this. We're a very confident, composed team. It's all or nothing now, and we showed up to play today. Mountain Lakes beat us 5-1 last year in the state final and hopefully we can be on the other side this time," - Baleigh Johnson said.
Junior Izzy Kurzon scored first for the Garnet Gulls in the first half followed by Johnson's second half goal assisted by freshman Katie Kirchner. Junior Gabby Kirchner sealed the game for Point Pleasant Beach, scoring a goal to go up 3-0 with 10 minutes remaining.
“It’s great. One more game. It’s always nice to play the last game of the season. I’m really looking forward to it, and I know the girls are, so we’ll get to practice tomorrow and start preparing for Sunday,” -Point Pleasant Beach head coach Adam Curtis said.
Point Pleasant Beach (15-3) will take on Mountain Lakes (14-7) in the NJSIAA Group 1 state championship at Franklin High School on Sunday at 12:30pm. It is a rematch of last year's Group 1 final. Audubon ends their season with a 19-2-2 record. https://x.com/tortreports/status/1722731709102207478?s=20
