The Audubon High School Girls soccer team defeated Schalick, 2-1 in the final round of the NJSIAA South Jersey Group 1 playoffs Monday evening. It was the team's first SJ1 title since the 2019-2020 season, when they defeated Woodstown, 2-0.
Audubon sophomore Peyton Marrone scored first for the Green Wave with a header off a corner kick to go into halftime with a 1-0 lead. Junior Makenna Ammon scored 10 minutes into the second half to extend Audubon's lead 2-0 with 30 minutes remaining. Schalick senior Emily Miller netted her 48th goal of the season to put the Cougars on the board midway through the second half, but it was too little too late.
Audubon (19-1-2) will host Central Jersey Champion Point Pleasant Beach (14-3) in the NJSIAA Group 1 state semifinal this Thursday at 3PM after they beat Shore 4-3 today in a thriller to win the Central Jersey Group 1 crown.
