Wayne Valley Gymnasts Squeeze Past Rival Wayne Hills

Wayne, N.J. - With a final score of 96.55 - 95.15, the Wayne Valley gymnastics team pulled out a victory over rival Wayne Hills by a margin almost as small as the, roughly, 3.5 miles that separates the two schools.

Wayne Valley was led by Julianna Cannici who took top honors in the all-around and floor exercise while Wayne Hills was paced by Reagan Donofrio who finished second in the all-around, vault, and floor.

While Valley took victories in every event, a Hills gymnast was not far behind.

On vault, Wayne Valley's Madeline Voinov was the top performer garnering an 8.65.  She was closely followed by Cannici, Donofrio, and Wayne Hills' Miyuki Dan who all finished tied for second with 8.6s.  Valley's Bianca Riccobono rounded out the top three performers on vault finishing with an 8.5.

Riccobono ran away with the uneven bars title scoring an 8.45.  The next two closest competitors were from Wayne Hills.  Dan and Karina Bhargava recorded a 7.7 and 7.65 respectively to take the second, and third spots, for the Patriots on the event.

Wayne Valley swept the top three spots on balance beam, with Voinov, again, taking the top spot for the Indians.  Voinov's score of 8.55 led the Valley sweep on the beam with Venessa Kuczek finishing in second with an 8.25 and Cannici rounding out the top-3 with an 8.2.

On the floor exercise, Cannici paced all competitors with an 8.35.  She was followed by Donofrio and Dan who scored an 8.0 and 7.8 respectively to finish and second, and third.

The final all-around standings mirrored the floor standings with Cannici placing first for Wayne Valley with a 31.65, while Donofrio and Dan finished in second and third respectively with scores of 31.2 and 30.4 for Wayne Hills.

Up next for Wayne's two gymnastics teams, Hills will host Montclair, while Valley will travel to Little Falls to take on Passaic Valley.  Both meets are scheduled for October 2.
