Rutgers Field Hockey Wins The Weekend To Move To 8-0

The Scarlet Knights continued to dominate as Rutgers Field Hockey took down #12 Penn State and La Salle over the weekend to move to 8-0 on the year. The eight-win start is the best in program history, and with a tough stretch coming up the Scarlet Knights need all the momentum behind them.

Rutgers vs Penn State

The match between the two Big Ten foes was a stalemate until the very end. Both teams saw a lot of offensive and defensive action, but neither team could find the back of the net. It wasn’t until the second overtime, 71:57 into the game, that Guillermina Causarano sealed the victory for the Scarlet Knights.

Causarano was able to coral an attempted clearance off of a shot by Penn State’s goaltender and bury it in the bottom right of the cage.

A huge finish by the Scarlet Knight to give her team the ranked victory. The win is the team’s first in the conference, moving them to 1-0 in Big Ten play. A great way to start considering how challenging the Big Ten conference is this year.

Rutgers goaltender Sophia Howard was stellar in net for the Scarlet Knights, making seven saves in the shutout victory.

Rutgers vs LaSalle

After Friday night’s wild victory, the Scarlet Knights built off of it nicely Sunday afternoon. Rutgers downed La Salle 2-0 to claim their first home victory of the year. After seven straight road games, the Scarlet Knights made sure to show out in front of their home crowd of 437.

Rutgers gave them plenty of action throughout the game, but didn’t find the back of the net till the second quarter. The Scarlet Knights grabbed the lead at 17:24 into the game, thanks to a flick and finish by Carly Snarski. Guillermina Causarano got credit for the assist.

The Scarlet Knights didn’t strike again till 5:12 left in the fourth quarter. Off of a penalty corner, sent by Guillermina Causarano, Lucy Bannatyne corralled the pass and set up her teammate Puck Winter. Winter had a nice strike to put the ball in the back of the net.

Rutgers had plenty of opportunities throughout the game to widen the scoring margin, however, La Salle’s goaltender made eight saves in the matchup to hold the Scarlet Knights to only two scores.
